The appointment begins with practical experience in the operations you will later represent. Before assuming the substantive Hotel Affairs role, you must complete a sequence of facility placements, back-office experience and internal education, achieving the required quality scores at each stage.

The first stage consists of assignments as a Spa Experience Coordinator. Each placement lasts between two and four months. You must work at a minimum of four different facilities and return to at least one previously completed facility for a separate placement. The return placement cannot immediately follow your earlier assignment at that same location.

This requires at least five placements. The purpose is to develop experience across different properties, teams and operating conditions, and to demonstrate that your performance can be sustained when returning to a familiar operation.

After completing the facility requirements and achieving the required scores, you undertake a two-month internal placement supporting an Assistant to the 2nd-Level CCD Assistant. This introduces the handling of written enquiries, case records, internal coordination and escalation from the back-office perspective.

Successful assessment is followed by three months of paid internal education provided by Golden Tree. Completion of the education and the required assessments leads to appointment as Assistant to the Hotel Affairs Officer.

The minimum development period under this sequence is fifteen months. Actual timing depends on placement duration, completion of the required assignments and achievement of the assessment standards.

Once appointed to Hotel Affairs, you act as a principal connection between partner hotels, Golden Tree management and the Spa Administrative Officers responsible for facility operations.

The work requires regular direct discussion with hotel representatives. You establish what the property needs, explain Golden Tree’s operational position and ensure that decisions and commitments are understood by the people responsible for implementing them. Matters raised in a meeting must remain traceable through the subsequent internal work.

You prepare and conduct briefings, coordinate discussions between departments and help resolve disagreements concerning service delivery, staffing, guest matters and operational arrangements. Diplomacy must be accompanied by precision: you are expected to understand the issue, distinguish established facts from assumptions and communicate a position without creating commitments beyond your authority.

The portfolio consists primarily of white-label facilities, together with Golden Tree’s own AURIM spas. The remit may extend to additional properties as the operation expands. Each setting requires an understanding of the hotel’s identity, management structure and expectations.

Periodic quality-assurance visits form part of the appointment. You review how the service is being delivered, discuss findings with the responsible officers and coordinators, and report matters requiring management attention. Follow-up must establish what has changed and whether the issue has been resolved.

The role operates with substantial autonomy within its agreed remit. Its effectiveness depends on informed judgement, credible communication and the ability to bring the right people into a discussion at the right time.

Exceptional spoken communication is a central requirement. Candidates must be able to address hotel management, deliver a prepared presentation, explain a difficult operational issue and respond constructively to questions or disagreement.

The language requirements, expressed using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, are:

  • German at C1 or above.
  • English at C2.
  • At least one additional language at B2 or above.

The required standard must be evident in professional discussion and written correspondence. You should be able to adjust the detail and tone of an explanation for hotel leadership, operational colleagues or a wider group without losing accuracy.

Creative thinking is important when a property’s expectations and the practical requirements of an operation do not immediately align. You must be able to develop workable alternatives, assess their consequences and explain why a particular approach is appropriate.

The appointment also requires confident use of presentation, reporting and communication tools, including Microsoft Office. You should be comfortable preparing management briefings, working with operational figures, maintaining action records and turning observations from a facility visit into a clear written assessment.

Experience involving client relationships, hotel operations, negotiation, presentations or coordination between departments provides useful preparation. Throughout the development route, candidates must demonstrate discretion, adaptability and the ability to receive feedback and apply it in a different setting.

Frequent travel and changing working environments are integral to the substantive role. Organisation, preparation and dependable follow-through are essential.

The appointment comprises 38 working hours per week. During the development period, work takes place at the assigned facilities and within the relevant Golden Tree teams.

The salary for the first eight months is €2,200 gross per month. Remuneration for the remaining development period must be specified in the employment offer.

Upon successful completion of the development route and appointment as Assistant to the Hotel Affairs Officer, remuneration increases to €4,280 gross per month, paid 14 times per year.

The appointment benefit also includes a 12-day paid holiday at a five-star resort, with a choice among the available options. The offer will specify the package inclusions, booking arrangements and treatment of the leave entitlement.

The substantive Hotel Affairs role requires very frequent travel, commonly involving two to three destinations per week. The geographical remit includes Vienna, Salzburg, Carinthia, Bratislava, Munich, Milan and Zurich. Travel serves hotel meetings, operational coordination, facility visits and quality assurance.

The substantive appointment carries the public job classification GE7-0. “G” identifies the general job category, “E” denotes external entry, and “7” identifies the category level. The final “0” indicates that this particular career track has no built-in route to a higher appointment.

Hotel Affairs is a distinct professional direction within Golden Tree. Further progression into another function remains possible, but requires a request to management and formal reassignment to a position with an applicable progression route. It does not arise automatically through continued service in this appointment.
